I can’t believe the holidays are almost here. Yes, it’s such a happy time! For some, it can mean busyness, stress, and a challenged immune system. Not to mention all those pesky viruses going around. But there is a way we can build up our immune system to fight back.  We can focus on getting enough sleep, good food, exercise and on loading up with good bacteria.

In our household, we make sure we get an extra dosage of probiotics during this season. Probiotics are a great supplement to feed our gut bacteria that keep our immune system going strong. There are several good supplements out there but most people often forget that cultured food has probiotics too. Cultured food is basically fermented food, such as kimchi, sauerkraut, kefir, yogurt, and kombucha tea. Aim for one or more servings a day for good gut health!

Here’s one of my favorite dishes to add kefir yogurt to. Use it as a light lunch, side dish, or snack. It’s even great to make for a potluck dinner. A creamy salad that keeps everyone nourished and satisfied!

Tangy Broccoli Florets Slaw Salad

 Ingredients:

1 12oz bag broccoli slaw/salad mix (can also use small broccoli florets as pictured above)

½ cup cooked bacon, crumbled

1/2 cup chopped red onion

1/2 cup raisins or craisins

2 tbsp. balsamic or red wine vinegar

3/4 cup plain kefir yogurt

2 tsp chili pepper flakes

1/2 tsp turmeric or curry powder (optional)

Salt and freshly ground black pepper

Directions:

Place broccoli slaw in mixing bowl. Add in your kefir yogurt and vinegar. Mix well. Then add seasonings. Mix again. Finally, add the remaining fixins, raisins, bacon, onion, etc. Mix and chill in fridge until ready to serve. Also great to mix into wraps. Serves 3-4.

Don’t forget, when it comes to probiotics, the more the merrier!

High Protein tip of the day:

Mix a bottle of your favorite Core Power natural high protein drink with a cup of kefir yogurt for a tangy and healthy probiotic drink packed with extra protein. Where can I buy Core Power?
