job purpose:  The Senior Packaging Engineer will be responsible for identifying and developing new packaging, with a focus on fairlife’s dairy packaging systems. They will identify and leverage relevant packaging trends, consumer trends, and technical guidance research along with system capability to develop new packaging focused on innovation, productivity, business continuity and sustainability. This role will include looking at both re-application of ideas in packaging as well as working with external resources such as design agencies, consultants, and suppliers.

responsibilities:

  • Own the design, development and scale-up for packaging innovations
  • Plan, direct, and coordinate activities concerned with design and modifications to allow for new packaging on existing and new packaging lines
  • Drives cross-discipline collaboration: collaborate with partners across R&D, technical, supply chain, brand and commercial to deliver fit-for-purpose solutions to the business
  • Manage projects by setting strategic priorities and guide processes for planning work and monitoring progress to achieve desired outcomes including creating the overall project schedule and integrating the data created by others
  • Advise and educate colleagues by effectively documenting key facts and routine technical data and presenting complex information in a concise, easy-to-understand manner
  • Build a business case with consumer and economic data to create a compelling business case for new ingredients, products, packages, processes, policies, or strategies
  • Bring innovation to market by generating and translating innovative ideas into feasible, practical, and cost-effective packages/processes/policies/strategies
  • Develop advanced knowledge of packaging materials and the related production processes including knowledge of material compatibility, supplier processes, standards, and specifications
  • Generate new or unique solutions to embrace new ideas that help sustain our business
  • Develop relationships and collaborate with the system, customers, and other stakeholders to approximately stretch and impact the System (Company, Suppliers, Operations)

skills/qualifications required:

  • Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Packaging, Materials Science Engineering or related field
  • 6-8 years’ experience with focus on lab, pilot and full-scale manufacturing throughout experiences
  • Positive and proactive self-starter with the ability to take charge
  • Ability to communicate clearly both within the organization and externally
  • Strong leadership and teamwork skills
  • Proven success in leading complex projects involving cross-functional teams
  • Ability to manage large budgets, broad scopes, multiple suppliers and/or team members from partner companies
  • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and priorities while adhering to strict deadlines
  • Ability to handle ambiguity and work in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
