job purpose: The Production Supervisor is a key member of the plant team. The Production Supervisor must have knowledge of all production equipment, lines and process flows (raw receiving, separation, filtration, batching, pasteurization). This individual will provide direction to all production employees to ensure production schedules are met, quality standards are achieved, equipment is maintained, and personnel are properly trained. This individual will possess the ability to trouble-shoot and resolve issues and maintain system yields & efficiencies for high productivity and cost effectiveness. In addition, they must have an understanding of milk components and specifications, sound communication skills, both written and verbal, the ability to assist Production Manager in the development and training of team members, ensure that all documentation is accurate and completed as required, ensure that GMP’s, Sanitation requirements PM’s, and performance measures are tracked and met. Specific duties listed may be altered in the future as conditions warrant.

 

responsibilities:

  • Operate & maintain Separators, Membrane Systems, HTST Pasteurizers and all other plant equipment; Ensure the proper sanitation, processing, sampling & testing of product in accordance to SOPs, process schedules and product specification requirements
  • Maintain records & documentation of all process and CIP via log sheets, check lists, dockets, legal charts and any other required documentation
  • Perform trouble-shooting of equipment to maintain efficiencies & yields while reducing costs and down-time
  • Continually monitor system performance compared to production schedules
  • Maintain sanitation & cleaning programs for separators, membrane systems, HTST, tanks, silos, lines, work areas, and all other plant equipment and production areas
  • Assist in the development and training of team members
  • Work cooperatively with Lab, Production and Maintenance associates for any needs
  • Maintain compliance with NMDA, USDA, FDA, OSHA and any other regulatory agencies
  • Any other duties as needed throughout plant and/or requested by management

working environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be required to crouch, bend, and stand. The employee should also have the ability to lift a minimum of 20 pounds. The mental and physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an individual to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. Employees are regularly exposed to hot & cold temperatures when performing tasks. The employee is regularly exposed to wet walking surfaces and may climb heights that exceed four feet. The noise level in the work environment is occasionally at a high level. The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an individual will encounter while performing the essential functions of this position.

 

skills/qualifications required:

  • High School Diploma, General Education Degree (GED), or equivalent experience
  • Food manufacturing, material handling, and forklift operation experience preferred
  • Prior experience in the dairy or cheese industry preferred
  • Prior experience in manufacturing a plus
  • Knowledge of HACCP, GMP’s, OSHA, and loss control programs highly desirable
  • Previous dairy plant experience in equipment CIP procedure sand safe milk handling a plus
  • The ability to coach, facilitate, mentor, and lead groups of people
  • Able to perform at a high level in a fast-paced and demanding environment
  • Self-motivated, innovative, team-oriented, and able to work without direct supervision
  • Exceptional attention to detail and strong organizational and time management skills understanding of the products manufactured and processes involved
  • Communicate effectively to maintain high levels of Safety, Quality, and Efficiency
  • Proficiency with computer programs such as email, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Able to read, comprehend, and abide by regulatory guidelines to maintain compliance
  • Ability to initiate and determine possible opportunities for improvement
  • Ability to prioritize projects and handle multiple tasks at once
  • Understanding of daily production needs
  • Knowledge of all plant processes
  • Flexible to changing needs
