job purpose:

The Production Manager will be part of the management team within fairlife, LLC. reporting to the Senior Production Manager - Packaging. Under limited supervision, the Night Production Manager is responsible for overseeing and implementing operational excellence within the Packaging Department.   The plant operates on a continuous 24/7 basis, and a flexible work schedule will be required.

responsibilities:

    • Monitors and refines critical processes within the department, leveraging employee engagement, to continuously improve results in Safety, Quality Assurance, Productivity, and Cost.  Special emphasis will be placed on the effectiveness of communication venues such as shift pass-offs, weekly focus team meetings, monthly playbook reviews, department alignment meetings, and quarterly business reviews among others to ensure broad understanding of business priorities at all levels of the organization.
    • Partners with upstream suppliers and downstream customers, both internal and external, to ensure the proper support of production plans and coordinate all resources needed to execute the schedule.
    • Responsible for people development in the areas of operational excellence, equipment care, lean manufacturing, continuous improvement methodologies, optimized package changeovers, and adherence to our human resources policies.
    • Responsible for the care and maintenance of packaging equipment and facilities cleaning, inspecting, lubrication (CIL) and coordination of preventative maintenance.
    • Reviews all nonconforming products and materials to determine and address root cause with internal and external stakeholders.
    • Monitors packaging department throughout shift to ensure adherence to GFSI and Good Manufacturing Practices
    • Maintain performance records for trending and analysis in the key areas of safety, quality, production, and cost. 
    • Responsible for analyzing data to drive continuous improvement.
    • Perform other duties as necessary such as covering supervisor outages.
    • Utilize the Escalation Procedure to unsure the appropriate resources are involved to minimize downtime.
    • Can lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) teams to drive to zero loss.
    • Can be a resource to support the Integrated Work Teams (IWS).

skills/qualifications required:

  • Must work in a safe manner and follow all safety procedures including use of safety equipment.

  • Ability to work all night shifts.
  • Familiar with TPM principles.

A Bachelor’s degree and six years of experience in a Manufacturing Management is strongly desired, preferably in the food industry.

College level verbal and written communication skills. Must be able to communicate with line operators and Supervisory staff on a daily basis and with senior management as required.

  • Leadership, team development, coaching, and / or teaching experience.
  • Good math and statistical skills.
  • Excellent computer skills for data input, report writing, program tracking.
  • Excellent organizational and follow through skills.

This position has management and employee supervisory responsibilities throughout the entire Coopersville Packaging Department and facility.

  • Coordinate training, skill assessments and documentation of individual performance trends.
  • Perform Salaried reviews.
  • Assist with hourly performance reviews
  • Oversee adherence to company policies and procedures.
  • Oversee scheduling of employees, and temporary labor as needed.
  • Review timesheets, overtime and approve payroll as required.
  • Ensures all MSS/PM’s are complete for their teams on a weekly basis.

  • Perform all duties necessary to meet Company, Customer and/or Government requirements/standards as prioritized by the Company.
  • Ability to initiate action to prevent the occurrence of nonconformities relating to Food Safety and the Quality of the product, processes, quality system, or safety system.
  • Identify and record any problems relating to Food Safety and the Quality of the ingredients, processes, quality system, or safety system.
  • Control further processing or delivery of nonconforming product in terms of Food Safety and Quality issues until the deficiency or unsatisfactory condition has been corrected.
  • In the event of absence, another employee with the same skill level will assume the duties and responsibilities as required.
