job purpose:

job purpose: Summary

The person is responsible for the care and maintenance of all processing equipment in the plant. Operations include daily operation/maintenance of UHT, HTST, Homogenizer, AST and associated equipment. Also included are troubleshooting and automation. This is a fulltime day position with responsibilities to include receiving troubleshooting calls on off hours. This position reports to the processing manager.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Responsible for all PM’s of equipment and ancillary pieces to include pumps, valves, probes, transmitters, etc.
  2. Troubleshoot any incidents that create downtime on said equipment
  3. Monitor and complete all necessary paperwork for internal and regulatory agencies
  4. Maintain all equipment parameters and recipes for the various systems throughout the plant
  5. Work as the technical liaison between the plant and regulatory agencies.
  6. Provide technical leadership and tutoring to line operators
  7. Ensure processes are standardized across all shifts

 

Qualifications

The appropriate candidate should have experience running the equipment as an operator and show proficiency in the daily operations of the aforementioned. The Specialist should be well versed in PMO, P&ID, sanitation and CIP, aseptic theory, and have a mechanical understanding and background. Must pass Bennett Mechanical Test.

Food Safety Responsibilities:

  • Notify supervision of any repairs or adjustments that are required that may affect product quality or food safety.
  • Understand, observe, and comply with the handling and usage of the color-coded container policy while in the Production Areas.
  • Perform all duties necessary to meet Company, Customer and/or Government requirements/standards as prioritized by the Company.
  • Ability to initiate action to prevent the occurrence of nonconformities relating to Food Safety and the Quality of the product, processes, quality system, or safety system.
  • Identify and record any problems relating to Food Safety and the Quality of the ingredients, processes, quality system, or safety system.
  • Control further processing or delivery of nonconforming product in terms of Food Safety and Quality issues until the deficiency or unsatisfactory condition has been corrected.
  • In the event of absence, another employee with the same skill level will assume the duties and responsibilities as required

 

Reasoning Ability

Must have the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions given in written, oral, or diagram form. Must have the ability to discern when issues may require input from levels of authority within the corporation.

Schedule:

  • Day Shift, but flexible.
  • Willing to work nights and weekends for unexpected and planned downtime
  • Willing to work nights and weekend for equipment assessment and operator training

 

Physical Demands:

Regular use of a variety of machines and tools is essential.  Standing for extended periods is common.  Hearing and vision within normal range is important for conversations, to receive ordinary information and to prepare or inspect documents, manuals and drawings.

Good math and reasoning ability is essential. Able to understand and utilize engineering drawings, operating manuals, and blueprints to conduct business.

  • Sitting/Standing/Walking: Stands, walks and sits during completion of job responsibilities.
  • Lifting/Carrying: Occasional lifting requirements as job demands.  Must be able to lift a minimum of 40 lbs. on an occasional basis.
  • Pushing/Pulling: Occasional pushing or pulling requirements.
  • Bending/Stooping: Occasional bending and stooping requirements.
  • Squatting/Kneeling/Crawling: Occasional kneeling or crawling requirements.
  • Twisting/Turning: Ongoing twisting or turning requirements.
  • Climbing/Balancing Climbing and balancing is required during plant inspections, and other related job requirements. Must be able to climb ladders and work at elevations of 75 feet.
  • Reaching: Ongoing reaching requirements associated with job requirements.
  • Grasping/Manipulating: Grasping and manipulating of papers, objects, and equipment will be required.  Ability to keyboard for data input will be required on an ongoing basis.

The job is performed indoors on a manufacturing floor.  Exposure to loud noises, dust, dirt, sparks, oil and smoke may occur. Protective safety equipment may be required including, but not limited to,:  hearing protection, bump caps, hair and beard nets, shoes, gloves, hardhat, and safety eyewear as needed.  Activities may include extended periods of standing.
