job purpose:

The Packaging Quality Engineer will play a key role in driving performance and quality improvements across the entire fairlife packaging value chain. The Engineer will collaborate with Operations, Supply Chain, Technical and External Suppliers to develop and manage methodologies that ensure packaging materials are fit for use. The Packaging Quality Engineer will be responsible for troubleshooting packaging material quality issues and driving supplier performance/capability improvements though the use of robust root-cause-corrective-action processes.  

responsibilities:

  • Establish and maintain supplier specifications for all fairlife packaging materials.
  • Ensure all packaging materials supplied to fairlife conform to their respective specifications by establishing testing protocols, testing frequencies, and documentation.
  • Establish and monitor non-conforming material procedures for all fairlife packaging.
  • Investigate non-conforming materials and submit samples to suppliers as necessary.
  • Drive supplier development and continuous improvement by leading root cause analysis and corrective action implementation for packaging material related issues.
  • Resolve packaging quality issues throughout the supply chain.
  • Play an active role in the qualification of new suppliers.
  • Manage plant implementation of new packaging materials including supplier audits, validations, qualifications, and line trials.
  • Interface with fairlife Purchasing and Corporate Quality regarding review of supplier documentation and supplier performance.
  • Identify root cause of reliability issues in the production processes, recommend and implement corrective measures.
  • Analyze machine efficiency and reliability data to identify areas of opportunity for improving product quality, increasing machine performance, and eliminating product defects.
  • Manage packaging equipment improvement projects.
  • Coordinate with the Commercialization and Innovation teams by exploring new packaging concepts, technologies & materials.
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in Engineering, Packaging, or Materials and Supply Chain Management.
  • 3+ years of related Packaging or Quality experience.
  • Experience with and working knowledge of packaging equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive supplier development.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving abilities.
  • Self-starter who can prioritize workload while meeting commitments.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Expertise and proficiency with Microsoft office.
  • Ability to analyze machine efficiency and downtime data.

food safety requirements:

  • Notify supervision of any repairs or adjustments that are required that may affect product quality or food safety.
  • Understand, observe, and comply with the handling and usage of the color-coded container policy while in the Production Areas.
  • Perform all duties necessary to meet Company, Customer and/or Government requirements/standards as prioritized by the Company.
  • Ability to initiate action to prevent the occurrence of nonconformities relating to Food Safety and the Quality of the product, processes, quality system, or safety system.
  • Identify and record any problems relating to Food Safety and the Quality of the ingredients, processes, quality system, or safety system.
  • Control further processing or delivery of nonconforming product in terms of Food Safety and Quality issues until the deficiency or unsatisfactory condition has been corrected.
  • In the event of absence, another employee with the same skill level will assume the duties and responsibilities as required.
