job purpose:

 

The Facilities Technician is responsible for running and maintaining all plant utilities, facilities, and operational support systems, including but not limited to steam/condensate return systems, domestic and RO water, fire and safety/security equipment, HVAC, high and low pressure compressed air, nitrogen and refrigeration equipment and all auxiliary related equipment. The operator will perform daily routine checklists, troubleshoot issues, and perform preventative maintenance, as well as make recommendations to the engineering and maintenance departments on operational improvements.  All tasks will be performed while supporting the policies, goals and objectives of the company.

responsibilities:

  • Operate and maintain all utilities, facilities, and operational support equipment
  • Serve as boiler operator in charge of the boiler room
  • Maintain all aspects of auxiliary equipment including cooling towers, chemical treatment systems and water softening systems
  • Performs chemical tests and monitors chemical usage
  • Takes meter readings as required
  • Regularly checks for water, air and/or steam/condensate leaks from pipes, pumps
  • Assists engineering with identifying and mitigating losses
  • Monitors all pressures, temperatures, levels and flows to ensure systems efficiencies
  • Performs breakdown and corrective maintenance as required
  • Performs preventative maintenance and complete all associated documentation on all equipment as dictated by the plant CMMS (D365)
  • Provide recommendations to improve documentation upon completion as needed.
  • Responsible for directing or assisting OEMs, vendors or contractors for all service calls including quarterly and annual rebuilds and all calibration checks
  • Responsible for cleanliness of all utilities areas
  • Assists with other maintenance work including valve/pump rebuilds and open work orders.
  • Participates in plant safety, health and environmental programs.

 

skills/qualifications required:

The minimum requirements for education and experience are listed below. Consideration will be given   to individuals with an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Must have at least 3-5 years of experience working with various utility equipment
  • Ability to read and interpret HMI’s, documents, schematics and drawings.
  • Ability to write detailed repair reports as well as good verbal communication.
  • Post-secondary education and/or a technical trade certificate is an asset.
  • Experience in the operation of a food beverage plant is an asset.
  • Expertise and proficiency with basic office computer software and the ability to learn how to    effectively use maintenance software to input work order and Preventative maintenance data, boiler/chemical checklist’s, research and checkout parts.

 

working conditions and physical requirements:

Regular use of a variety of machines and tools is essential.  Standing for extended periods is common.  Hearing and vision within normal range is important for conversations, to receive ordinary information and to prepare or inspect documents, manuals and drawings.

Good math and reasoning ability is essential. Able to understand and utilize engineering drawings, operating manuals, and blueprints to conduct business.

Sitting/Standing/Walking: Stands, walks and sits during completion of job responsibilities.

Lifting/Carrying: Occasional lifting requirements as job demands.  Must be able to lift a minimum of 40 lbs. on an occasional basis.

Pushing/Pulling: Occasional pushing or pulling requirements.

Bending/Stooping: Occasional bending and stooping requirements.

Squatting/Kneeling/Crawling: Occasional kneeling or crawling requirements.

Twisting/Turning: Ongoing twisting or turning requirements.

Climbing/Balancing Climbing and balancing is required during plant inspections, and other related job requirements. Must be able to climb ladders and work at elevations of 75 feet.

Reaching: Ongoing reaching requirements associated with job requirements.

Grasping/Manipulating: Grasping and manipulating of papers, objects, and equipment will be required.  Ability to keyboard for data input will be required on an ongoing basis.

The job is performed indoors on a manufacturing floor.  Exposure to loud noises, dust, dirt, sparks, oil and smoke may occur. Protective safety equipment may be required including, but not limited to,:  hearing protection, bump caps, hair and beard nets, shoes, gloves, hardhat, and safety eyewear as needed.  Activities may include extended periods of standing.

  • Notify supervision of any repairs or adjustments that are required that may affect product quality or food safety.
  • Understand, observe, and comply with the handling and usage of the color-coded container policy while in the Production Areas.
  • Perform all duties necessary to meet Company, Customer and/or Government requirements/standards as prioritized by the Company.
  • Ability to initiate action to prevent the occurrence of nonconformities relating to Food Safety and the Quality of the product, processes, quality system, or safety system.
  • Identify and record any problems relating to Food Safety and the Quality of the ingredients, processes, quality system, or safety system.
  • Control further processing or delivery of nonconforming product in terms of Food Safety and Quality issues until the deficiency or unsatisfactory condition has been corrected.
  • In the event of absence, another employee with the same skill level will assume the duties and responsibilities as required.
