job purpose:

The Dairy Welfare and Sustainability Manager is responsible for implementing the vision, mission, and strategy of fairlife’s programs.  This position will help manage fairlife’s animal welfare programs. Additionally, in charge of on-farm sustainability programs, development of greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction strategies and responsible for accounting. This role will also work directly with supplying co-ops and farms to perform animal welfare and environmental assessments, manage pilot studies, and influence farming practice adoption. In addition, this role would work cross-functionally with our milk procurement and communications teams.

responsibilities:

  • Work with internal and external parties to conduct and review farm audits
  • Develop and implement an innovative fairlife Sustainable Farming Program that provides feasible solutions for our partner farmers and suppliers, to include:
    • GHG, carbon sequestration, water strategies
    • Data collection, analysis and carbon accounting
    • Focus on value creation and innovative solutions
  • Coordinate with industry-organizations to lead in dairy welfare and sustainability
  • Effectively manage collaborative projects with multiple partners; facilitate progress and deliverables, address obstacles, track and report impact, adjust and adapt as necessary
  • Support sustainable value creation through cross-functional engagement, communicating compelling stories internally/externally and demonstrating the fairlife brand promise
  • Visit supplying farms to review practices and programs and make recommendations for improvements in animal welfare and farm sustainability

skills/qualifications required:

  • Bachelor’s degree or greater in related field required
  • Subject Matter Expert in dairy farming, animal health and welfare and/or sustainable agriculture
  • Experience working in dairy farming and/or crop production space
  • Possess strong understanding of dairy industry and dairy animal welfare.
  • Possess strong understanding of GHG accounting and reduction strategies.
  • Possess a strong understanding of modern agricultural practices and technologies.
  • Strategic and analytical thinker with great communication skills and ability to manage data
  • Ability to handle ambiguity and work in a fast paced, entrepreneurial environment

position location: Remote (preference to New York and tri-state area)

reports to: Director of Animal Welfare and Sustainable Farming

travel requirements: 25-50%
