job purpose: The purpose of this role is to drive the advancement of our technical agenda leveraging dairy science, nutrition and technology in the field of ultra-filtration and aseptic milk processing.  The dairy platform lead will develop our global dairy center of excellence capabilities while supporting the fairlife growth agenda.  This role will have hands-on accountability focused on advancing and enhancing our intellectual property, new market innovations with advanced ingredient technology, novel platforms to leverage technology and next generation capabilities. 

This role is a key member of the global R&D and technical community and works cross functionally with marketing, quality, manufacturing, engineering and international technical teams.  This role delivers value by pushing new technical frontiers in dairy science, working with universities and best-in-class dairy technology firms and developing a robust set of capabilities across the fairlife eco-system.  This role will also support our Minute Maid Business Unit innovation and international expansion of new product platforms.

 

responsibilities:

 

  • Design and development of new products and platforms focused on dairy, health and wellness
  • Develop advantaged product design tools and capabilities to further our competitive edge in the marketplace
  • Push boundaries on existing capabilities while managing food safety and quality risks
  • Inform advocacy and regulatory requirements based on science and dairy nutrition know-how
  • Establish effective and efficient systems for managing new ingredients, textures and formats (i.e. particulates, sensitive ingredients, active ingredients)
  • Intersect consumer trends and technology advancements to partner cross-functionally on strategic roadmap of innovations and new platforms while identifying, assessing and mitigating technical risks

 

critical experience, education and skills:

  • Master’s Degree or PhD in food and dairy science or related degree
  • 12+ years of progressive leadership in dairy product design and development
  • Proven track record of scaling and commercializing new innovations and capabilities in dairy – hands on lab to scale experience with critical reasoning skills.
  • Working knowledge of product, processing and filling equipment
  • Strong attention to detail and analytical skills
  • Able to demonstrate an entrepreneurial approach to innovation leadership
  • Demonstrated excellence in relationship building, communication and presentation
  • Ability to thrive in fast paced, entrepreneurial environment

 

position Location:  Chicago, IL (timing flexible based on travel situation)

reports to:  Chief Science Officer with secondary reporting line to VP Technical

travel:  50% including some international travel
